Moog Music Etherwave Theremin Kit

Product Description

Customize your cabinet, work with your hands, and save a few bucks. The build-it-yourself kit has an unfinished wood cabinet and pre-built circuit board. Several wiring points require soldering. 110v power supply is included (for use in U.S. or Canada). All Etherwaves ship with two videotapes: Clara Rockmore: the Greatest Theremin Virtuosa, and Mastering the Theremin, featuring Lydia Kavina. What is a Theremin? The theremin is one of the oldest electronic instruments, and the only one known that you play without touching. Moving your hands in the space around its antennas controls pitch and volume. Like the Ethervox, the Etherwave is an authentic adaptation of inventor Leon Theremin's original design. The Etherwave Kit If you can read a diagram, solder, and use basic hand tools, you should be able to build this theremin in an evening or two. The kit includes a pre-assembled and tested circuit board, an unfinished hardwood cabinet, nickel-plated brass antennas, and detailed assembly, test, and customization instructions. 110v power supply is included.

  • Power rocker switch-
  • Audio Out- standard 1/4" phone jack

5.0 out of 5 stars The best theremin for the price, November 19, 2004

The Moog Etherwave theremin is the "Ford Taurus" of theremins... IT's not the prettiest thing out there, but the value and reliability is stellar.

I personally own 3 Etherwaves. I built one as a kit and the other two were pre-built models. The kit comes with a pre-soldered and tested main board, so all you really have to do is wire up the knobs on the front panel and finish the cabinet. You can even put it in your own custom cabinet. I've seen people build them into old radios, mannequins, and even pickle jars!

The Etherwave has a 5 octave range and it's very stable with temperature drift. Compared to other theremins at this price point, the Etherwave is a clear stand-out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple DIY instrument, January 31, 2010

Assembling the theremin wasn't terribly difficult and helps you understand what exactly is going on under there. A lot of fun for any do-it-yourselfers or a great starter for anyone trying to get into the hobby. They provide all the parts you'll need (except for stain, paint, and/or lacquer for the box) and the instructions are simple enough. You will need something like a mic stand or keyboard stand because it doesn't operate very well on a table. Other than that, it's an instrument that's a lot of fun to mess around with.
