Three SM57s
The industry standard for snare drum, and a reliable and high-performing choice for toms, the Shure cardioid dynamic SM57 microphone features a contoured frequency response that cuts through the mix with exceptional impact, while reproducing sound accurately.
One Beta 52A
Perfect for the kick drum, the supercardioid Beta 52A derives its low-end punch and sonic presence from a carefully tailored frequency response. Equipped with its own pneumatic shock mount, the Beta 52A is designed with an integral locking stand mount for quick-and-easy set up.

You can put an SM57 in front of just about anything and get a usable sound. A lot of people love them on snare's and guitar cabs, and get fantastic sounds from them. I'm sure you could get BETTER sound from other mics, but it's a very versatile mic, and is a great bang for your buck. It would never hurt to have 3 in your mic locker... especially if you're doing live sound. I haven't used mine live so I can't comment on the included rim mounts as I use stands in the studio, but they seem like they'd get the job done.Given the choice, I'd probably prefer to own an AKG D112 over the Beta 52... but I couldn't pass up the price of this pack. I have both, and use them for different things, depending on the sound I want. I'm definitely not complaining about the Beta 52. I'm super happy with it, and it definitely has its place in the studio and... SM57's are clear, clean and bulletproof... and after I put the Beta-52 in my kick drum, the 18s shook harder and the 15s punched tighter. The reason for my review, however, isn't to rave about these mics (they speak for themselves, do some research), but to rave about the PRICE. Just buying 3 SM57s individually will cost you $300. Add the Mic clips at $40 a piece, and you're at $420 already, and that doesn't even count the Beta 52, which is now cheaper than free! (and it's the most expensive mic in the kit!). What a deal. I bought 2. At first I wasn't sure I could use the other Beta 52, but I couldn't see paying MORE to buy the other 57s I needed... and as it turns out, that "extra kick mic" sounds GREAT on my 18" floor tom! If you need mics and want quality and aren't rich... BUY THIS SET! 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful ![]() By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Shure DMK57-52 Drum Microphone Kit (Electronics) This is the best value in microphones around. You get 3 SM57s, which you can (and should) use for instruments other than drums--like guitar amps. Plus, you get a kick mic that doubles as a GREAT bass amp mic. Combine this package with a nice condenser, and you have a full complement of studio mics. This is THE BEST deal you will find on this mic package. |
